Water FeatureS – Lining Systems

Water Features are aesthetically orientated structures, often containing non-hazardous water or liquids. The main focus of these structures is containment for decorative purposes. Water Features can vary vastly with regards to design, from concrete to soil. The design is normally very project specific and often requires technical design input from a specialist geosynthetic installation contractor prior to construction.

EPL SA offers form-fit geosynthetic lining systems for the purpose of fluid containment for these applications. We find in most cases the engineer, client or architect wishes to conceal the black plastic finish of a High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) geomembrane. The liner can be hidden by means of various technical details, thus adding to the aesthetic value of the feature. The most common of these details include the EPL SA hidden spoon detail which is utilised along the embankment perimeter. The lining installation can be hidden by means of stone cover, coping, soil cover, jute or a specialised cellular confinement system.

EPL SA suggests a premium quality HDPE or black (UV stabilised) Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) geomembrane specification be adopted. The SANS1526 specification for geosynthetic membrane composition ensures longevity of the barrier system, even in exposed applications. The geomembrane barrier system is Quality Control tested during the installation phase; all of which is strictly carried out in line with the SANS10409 specification.
